Peyton Manning: ‘Zero interest’ in running for office

Retired NFL quarterback Peyton Manning says that he has no interest in running for public office.

“I certainly have an interest in politics and in our country. I just have zero interest in being a politician,” he said on the talk show “3HL” on 1045 The Zone in Nashville.

Manning’s comments came after Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), who announced this week that he would not seek reelection in 2018, suggested Wednesday that the former NFL star would be a “great” addition to the Senate.

“Peyton Manning is the kind of guy that would be great in public office. … I think it’s possible,” Corker told Politico. “Is it likely? I don’t think so. If he got a huge rush of public inquiries it would probably push him away.”

But while Corker cautioned that Manning is unlikely to run for his Senate seat, he said that the former University of Tennessee football player would be unlikely to face a tough challenge in the Volunteer State.

“If he were to run nobody in their right mind would consider running against him,” Corker said.

But Manning has “zero consideration” for running for Senate, he said.

“Sen. Corker, I am grateful for his friendship, I wish him and Sen. [Lamar] Alexander would be in office till they’re 100 years old,” he added.
