House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) threw the ceremonial first pitch at Friday night’s playoff game between the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs.

Scalise, holding onto a walker, tossed the pitch to open the series taking place at Nationals Park in southeast Washington, D.C.

The park is the site of the annual Congressional Baseball Game, where lawmakers gathered earlier this year in a show of unity following a baseball practice shooting.

Scalise was critically injured in June when a gunman opened fire on the GOP baseball team as it practiced ahead of this year’s congressional game. Scalise and three others were shot.

The No. 3 House Republican returned to Capitol Hill last week. He is still undergoing rehabilitation and has been using crutches and a motorized scooter to get around.

The Nationals and Cubs are squaring off Friday night in Game 1 of their National League Division Series.
