A Democratic lawmaker is standing by her claim that President Trump disrespected the widow of a fallen U.S. soldier who was killed in an ambush in Niger earlier this month.
Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) wrote on Twitter Wednesday that she will “stand by” her claim that Trump told the widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson that he “knew what he signed up for … but when it happens it hurts anyway.”
{mosads}”I still stand by my account of the call b/t @realDonaldTrump and Myeshia Johnson,” Wilson tweeted. “That is her name, Mr. Trump. Not ‘the woman’ or ‘the wife.’ “

Trump has denied Wilson’s account of the call he made to Johnson’s family on Tuesday.
“Didn’t say what that congresswoman said. Didn’t say it at all,” Trump said at the White House on Wednesday.
“I’d like her to make the statement again,” he said of Wilson. “Because I did not say what she said. I had a very nice conversation with the woman, with the wife who sounds like a lovely woman, did not say what the congresswoman said, and most people aren’t too surprised to hear that.”
“I stand my account of the call with @realDonaldTrump and was not the only one who heard and was dismayed by his insensitive remarks,” Wilson tweeted earlier on Wednesday.

Wilson’s comments were echoed by Johnson’s mother, Cowanda Jones-Johnson, in an interview with the The Washington Post.
“President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband,” Jones-Johnson said, adding that Wilson’s account of the conversation with Trump was accurate.
