Poll: Dems lead GOP by 9 points on generic House ballot 

House Democratic candidates are up 9 points over their Republican counterparts in a generic ballot released by Quinnipiac University on Monday.

According to results from the new poll, 50 percent of American voters said they would vote for the Democratic candidate in the election for the House, while 41 percent of voters said they would opt for the GOP. 

{mosads}Forty-nine percent of independent voters said they would back the Democratic candidate, while 35 percent said they would vote for the Republican.

Fifty percent of male voters were more likely vote for the Republican candidate, according to the poll, compared to 42 percent of men who said they would support the Democrat. 

By contrast, 58 percent of female voters said they would vote for the Democratic candidate, while 33 percent of women polled said they would support the Republican.

The poll also found that white voters were evenly divided, with 46 percent of voters saying they would vote for Democrats and the same number of voters saying they would support Republicans. 

Eighty percent of black voters polled said they would vote for the Democratic candidate, while 13 percent indicated they would support the GOP. 

The majority of Hispanic voters polled, 60 percent, also said they would vote for the Democratic candidate, while 35 percent indicated Republican support.

The poll reports immigration is the most important issue for voters ahead of November’s election, with 27 percent of respondents citing it as the reason for their vote. Twenty-three percent of voters cited the economy, 22 percent listed health care and 13 percent said gun policy.

The Quinnipiac University poll surveyed 1,020 voters across the country from Wednesday to Sunday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
