Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.) said his office has received 500 tampons as donations after he called on Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to make feminine hygiene products available for free in all House bathrooms.

Maloney said in a statement that he plans to send an email out to all House offices offering the tampons.

The New York Democrat also invited his colleagues to pick the products up at his office.

“A handful of Americans from around the country have donated a total of more than 500 feminine hygiene products to our office. We have more than enough, and want to ensure that every office is equipped to welcome female visitors and staff,” Maloney said.

The news arrives a week after Maloney joined Rep. Grace Meng (D-N.Y.) in calling on the Speaker to provide the products in all bathrooms operated by the House.

“Feminine hygiene products are a basic and essential need for women,” Meng said in a statement from her office.
