Top GOP lawmaker’s son gives maximum donation to Dem running for his seat
Bobby Goodlatte, the son of Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), said on Sunday that he donated the maximum allowed to Democrat Jennifer Lewis, who is running for his father’s seat in the midterm elections.
“I just gave the maximum allowed donation to Jennifer Lewis, a democrat running for my father’s congressional seat,” his son said on Twitter.
“I’ve also gotten 5 other folks to commit to donate the max,” he added. “2018 is the year to flip districts — let’s do this!”

Bob Goodlatte, 65, who is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said last year that he will not seek reelection for the position, becoming the latest in a string of GOP lawmakers to announce retirement.
{mosads}His retirement announcement arrived in November 2017 shortly after the election for Virginia governor, which Democrat Ralph Northam won by 9 points.
Lewis, 26, is a mental health professional and has built a reputation as a prominent opponent of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline.
Lewis, who supports “Medicare for all,” legal marijuana and a $15 per hour minimum wage, is running to take on Del. Ben Cline (R) in November for Virginia’s 6th Congressional District seat.
