Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) in a letter sent Monday asked President Trump for an expedited emergency declaration for his state ahead of Hurricane Florence’s expected landing.

“This declaration would allow much-needed federal resources to be mobilized to assist in North Carolina’s preparation for Hurricane Florence,” Jones wrote.

Gov. Roy Cooper (D) requested that the president expedite a declaration of an emergency in North Carolina on Monday, hoping to obtain public assistance for the entire state.

{mosads}Florence is anticipated to develop into an extremely dangerous major hurricane sometime Monday and continue throughout the week.

The storm is threatening North and South Carolina, CNN reports, and is likely to hit the ground late Thursday night or early Friday morning.

It was upgraded to a Category 4 Monday and has sustained winds at 130 mph, which are expected to increase further.
