The Senate is shortening its work week, as Washington braces for an anticipated snowstorm Thursday.

Adjourning the Senate on Wednesday evening, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said that the Senate won’t meet again until Friday morning for a pro forma session, during which no legislative business or roll-call votes occur.

{mosads}The Senate wrapped up votes for the week on Wednesday afternoon, when senators moved up a final vote on overriding President Obama’s veto on the Keystone XL pipeline from Thursday to Wednesday.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said senators were “heading for the exits.”

“Even by Chicago standards, this has been some winter,” he said. “We are heading for the exits here in Washington this afternoon with the threat of another winter storm.”

The National Weather Service estimates the storm could dump between 4 to 8 inches of snow in the area.

The Senate will reconvene on Monday, March 9.
