GOP senator warns public of a ‘barrage’ of ObamaCare ads this summer
Barrasso said people are “angry” that the president delayed the employer mandate for one year but didn’t extend the individual mandate. Last month, the administration announced that it would delay the employer mandate for one year until 2015. The mandate required employers with more than 50 full-time employees to provide health insurance to their workers or face a penalty.
{mosads}Barrasso also criticized the administration for using “Hollywood” actors in ads to “distract” the public from the flaws of the Affordable Care Act, also called ObamaCare. He said the ad campaign cost $700 million.
“People can expect a barrage of advertisements,” Barrasso said. “He’s picking the pockets of the American people for advertising dollars.
“Instead of spending the rest of the summer trying to sell an expensive failing product, he should listen.”
Republicans have argued that the employer mandate will harm the economy and cause employers to reduce workers’ hours to avoid buying health insurance for employees.
Democrats point out that the healthcare law has already benefited people with preexisting conditions who can’t be denied coverage, those under the age of 26 who can stay on their parents’ plans and women who now pay less for preventative healthcare.
