Similarly, the healthcare law establishes accountable care organizations to encourage better coordination. It splits savings from ACOs between Medicare and the ACOs themselves, as an incentive for doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers to participate.
But stakeholders have raised serious questions about the proposed framework for ACOs. Several large, integrated clinics that are similar to ACOs have said they don’t plan to take part in the program unless it is changed significantly.
