Reid takes jab at Chamber on cybersecurity

Lieberman and the four co-sponsors of his bill have taken the Chamber to task for speaking out against the Cybersecurity Act, arguing that the business lobby is spreading mischaracterizations about what measure would accomplish and is putting national security at risk by fighting against it.

The Senate will take up Lieberman’s bill this week, but so far senators have not reached on an agreement on which amendments will be brought forward. Reid encouraged senators to come to an agreement on amendments soon, and acknowledged that time is running out for the Senate to move on the bill before the August recess.

“I would hope those people led by Sens. Lieberman and Collins will work to come up with a finite list of amendments so we can move on to the cybersecurity bill,” Reid said. “I’ve spoken to the Republican leader yesterday and I’m being really patient trying to get a list of amendments we can agree on. I hope that can be done soon.”

“There’s not a lot of time left to tread water, so to speak,” he continued.

Reid added that there will be a briefing for members later on Tuesday to discuss cybersecurity.
