Lawmaker encourages ‘sexting’ on C-SPAN

Rep. James Clyburn is praising “sexting,” — that is, using one’s phone to send NSFW messages — calling it a “great tool.”

The South Carolina Democrat made the odd, and likely inadvertent, remark during a recent C-SPAN appearance, as first reported by The Daily Caller.

{mosads}“Use the tools that we have,” he told a “Book TV” caller while speaking from the National Book Festival in Washington. “We’ve got great tools to communicate about everything else. We can, uh, text. Uh, what do you call it? Sexting.

“Let’s do some voting, organizing over the Internet. We’ve got the tools,” he continued. “Let’s use them for a new, massive movement that will make sure that we can have in November 2014 the kind of turnout at the polls that we had in 2012 in November.”

A companion standing next to Clyburn during the C-SPAN interview is seen grinning after the 74-year-old congressman makes the sexting snafu.
