Louise Linton, wife of Treasury secretary, brags about how much she pays in taxes

Actress Louise Linton, and new wife of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, lashed out at an Instagram user Monday night, bragging about how much she pays in taxes.

The Scottish actress posted a photo on Instagram showing her leaving a government plane while on a trip to Kentucky with Mnuchin and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). In the post, she included hashtags for the expensive brands she was wearing, such as #rolandmouret, #hermesscarf, #tomford and #valentino.

An Instagram user accused her of being “deplorable” and mocked her, saying that she is “glad we could pay for your little getaway.”

{mosads}“Aw!!! Did you think this was a personal trip?! Adorable!” Linton wrote. “Do you think the US govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?! Lololol. Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country?”

Linton went on to comment that the user’s “life looks cute” and that she is “adorably out of touch.”

“Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you’d be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours,” Linton said.

The Instagram user, Jenni Miller, said in an interview with The New York Times that she was shocked at Linton’s comments, adding that they were “wholly inappropriate.”

“It seems like she’s been in public life for a long time,” she said. “It just seemed wholly inappropriate.”

Miller added that she would have joked about Marie Antoinette, given the actress’s post about her luxury goods while visiting a state with a high poverty rate on a government trip.

“I think my post was just five or six words, and she had to go on basically a rant about it to make herself look more important and look smarter, better, richer — all those things,” Miller said.

Linton faced backlash on Twitter for her comments:
