Emilio Estefan recording anti-Trump tune
Singer-songwriter Emilio Estefan is rallying Hispanic musicians to record a new song that takes on GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Estefan’s tune will feature his wife, Gloria Estefan, performing with Shakira, Carlos Santana and other entertainers in a show of solidarity with the Hispanic community, according to Billboard.
{mosads}The song, which will be released later this month, is called “We’re All Mexican.”
“[It is] a celebration of Hispanics and our accomplishments,” Emilio Estefan told Billboard.
“Trump doesn’t represent anything to me,” he said of the billionaire businessman.
“Everyone has their own opinion, and he can have any opinion he wants, as long as he doesn’t humiliate my people.”
Billboard said the recording will also feature contributions from Thalia, Pepe Aguilar, Wisin, Wyclef Jean and even celebrity chef José Andrés.
Trump riled Hispanic advocates over the summer with sharp criticism of illegal immigration and Mexico.
“They’re sending people who have a lot of problems,” Trump said during his campaign launch on June 16 from New York City’s Trump Tower.
“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” he added. “And some, I assume, are good people.”
Trump has since repeatedly called for stricter border security and deportation of illegal immigrants.
“There’s a message being sent out to the world where people are giving opinions that are plain wrong,” Estefan said. “We need to lift up our pride and show the world what we’re doing.”
Trump’s criticism of illegal immigrants has not hurt the real estate tycoon’s popularity. He leads the race for the GOP presidential nomination in multiple national polls.
