Energy Across America: A Policy Discussion on Microgrid Technology

Energy Across America: A Policy Discussion on Microgrid Technology

From powering remote villages in rural Alaska to delivering reliable energy to military bases, microgrids are transforming the way energy is delivered to isolated regions and beyond. While microgrids have traditionally been used for their capability to function independently (or “island”) from the rest of the grid, new uses for this technology are rapidly developing.

On Thursday, December 3, The Hill held a discussion on the future of energy delivery. Policymakers, researchers, and technology and energy industry experts discussed the value of microgrids in the event of a natural disaster or homeland security threat, how microgrids allow for integration of alternative energy sources, and what policy and regulatory reforms are necessary to facilitate the integration of microgrids into the larger power supply system.
