New poll shows Trump approval rating at 48 percent

President Trump’s approval rating among Americans stands at 48 percent, a new poll shows.

The poll from American Barometer, a new joint project by Hill.TV and HarrisX, showed that among those who approve of Trump’s job performance, 23 percent did so “strongly” while 25 percent did so “somewhat.”

The survey also showed 52 percent disapproved of Trump’s performance, with 38 percent doing so “strongly” and 14 percent disapproving “somewhat.” The poll was released on Wednesday’s edition of the new online video show “What America’s Thinking” with Joe Concha.

Dritan Nesho, a pollster and CEO of HarrisX, said the new findings show Trump’s approval ratings have not been hit by the recent barrage of negative news. Trump also remains a polarizing figure ahead of the midterms in November.

“Despite recent events on immigration and Russia, Trump’s approval is sustained by strong economic optimism and his positions on a series of core issues,” Nesho said.

The American Barometer poll found Trump enjoyed the approval of 87 percent of Republicans and 44 percent of independents, but only 17 percent of Democrats.

The president also had a majority of approval from men (52 percent), whites (57 percent), adults aged 35 to 49 (54 percent), rural Americans (56 percent) and Southerners (52 percent), the poll showed.

This was American Barometer’s first measure of Trump support, which will be tracked weekly.

The survey was conducted online within the United States between July 23-24 among a randomly selected sample of 1,001 American voters.

The results are then weighted for age within gender, region, race/ethnicity, marital status, household size, income, employment, education, political party and political ideology where necessary to align them with their actual proportions in the population.
