Three more agents leaving Secret Service in wake of controversy

Three more Secret Service agents are leaving the law enforcement agency in the wake of the recent prostitution scandal in Colombia, The Hill has confirmed.

Two of the Secret Service agents have chosen to resign from the agency, while one other agent had a security clearance stripped and is leaving the agency, according to a statement from Secret Service Assistant Director Paul S. Morrissey.

{mosads}Meanwhile, two other employees have been cleared of misconduct and will face appropriate administrative action, Morrissey said. 

Six agents were forced to leave the agency last week after the Secret Service conducted an internal investigation into the Colombia incident, and one other agent was cleared of misconduct and will face administrative action.

Morrissey said all 12 agents involved in the incident in Colombia have been “cleared of serious misconduct, resigned, retired, been notified of personnel actions to permanently revoke their security clearances, or have been proposed for permanent removal for cause.”

“The Secret Service is committed to conducting a full, thorough and fair investigation in this matter and will not hesitate to take appropriate action should any additional information come to light,” Morrissey said.

President Obama’s trip to Colombia last week was overshadowed by allegations that 12 Secret Service agents on assignment drank heavily before the president’s arrival and brought numerous prostitutes back to their hotel rooms.

The Secret Service investigation comes days after the White House Counsel’s office concluded its own investigation and found no wrongdoing on the part of White House advance staff.
