Trump won’t throw out first pitch at Opening Day ballgame

President Trump turned down an invitation to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Washington Nationals’ Opening Day baseball game next week, according to The Washington Post. 

The Nationals begin their season at home Monday, April 3, at 1 p.m. against the Miami Marlins.

Presidents are often asked to throw the ceremonial first pitch at Opening Day baseball games, a custom that began with President William H. Taft.

{mosads}Former President Obama threw out the first pitch of the Nationals’ opening game in 2010. He also did so at the 2009 All-Star Game in his first year as president.

Former President George W. Bush threw out the first pitch at major league games at least six times as president, including his iconic toss before Game 3 of the 2001 World Series at Yankee Stadium just after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Before he was a president, Trump threw out the first pitch at a 2006 Boston Red Sox home game.
