Trump: I want to finish healthcare before starting on tax reform

President Trump says he plans to finish healthcare reform before moving on to tax reform and formulating an infrastructure plan.

“I think we’re going very well with healthcare,” Trump told Fox Business Network in an interview. “And after that, we’re going to start on tax reform and infrastructure.”

The statement comes after the GOP’s failed efforts last month to repeal and replace ObamaCare. The legislation, dubbed the American Health Care Act, was pulled from the floor at the last minute as opposition mounted among House Republicans.

{mosads}When pressed by the host as to why healthcare reform must come first, Trump admitted that business managers who say tax reform is more impactful are correct.

“They’re all right. But because I’m saving a tremendous amount, hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars we’re saving on healthcare,” the president said. “So we’re going to have a much better plan than ObamaCare, which is failing.”

But the president insisted that the savings from healthcare reform would be essential to moving on to taxes.

“So we’re saving tremendous amounts of money on healthcare when we get this done, number one. And most importantly, actually we’re going to have great healthcare. And all of that saving goes into the tax. If you don’t do that, you can’t put any of the savings into the tax cuts.”
