Trump to speak at religious conference during Comey testimony

President Trump will address a group of religious conservatives at a hotel in Washington on Thursday as former FBI Director James Comey testifies on Capitol Hill.

The Faith & Freedom Coalition announced Tuesday that Trump will address the “Road to Majority Conference” at Washington’s Omni Shoreham Hotel at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Comey’s highly anticipated testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee will be going on at the same time.

{mosads}Trump fired the FBI director in a dramatic move last month that has led to charges that the White House was seeking to influence an FBI probe into alleged ties between Trump’s campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.

The firing led the Justice Department to name a special prosecutor for its investigation into Russian election interference. 

The public on Thursday could hear for the first time the the degree to which Comey thought the White House was trying to influence the FBI probe. 

Trump has received a warm welcome from the “Road to Majority Conference” in the past. He has spoken at length about his faith there, and Faith & Freedom Coalition president Ralph Reed is one of Trump’s staunchest defenders in the religious community.

Vice President Pence, White House senior counselor Kellyanne Conway, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) will also address the gathering.
