President Trump claimed his son Donald Trump Jr. “openly gave his e-mails to the media and authorities” after it was revealed he met with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign.

“My son Donald openly gave his e-mails to the media & authorities whereas Crooked Hillary Clinton deleted (& acid washed) her 33,000 e-mails!” Trump tweeted Saturday morning.

{mosads}Trump Jr. did release the chain of emails between himself and music publicist Rob Goldstone, who acted as an intermediary to set up the meeting between Trump Jr. and the Russian lawyer. In the emails, the attorney promised damaging information about then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Trump’s eldest son released the emails just minutes before The New York Times published a report detailing the contents of the emails, which show that Trump Jr. was told before the meeting that the information about Clinton was part of a Russian government effort to help his father’s presidential campaign.

The meeting was also attended by White House senior adviser and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner as well as then-Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort.

Trump Jr. and Manafort are working with the Senate Judiciary Committee to discuss details of the meeting in an effort to avoid public testimony. The committee is leading the congressional probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential race.

The probe is also investigating whether there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the federal probe into the Russia issue, sent a document preservation request to the White House on Friday asking staff members to preserve all documents related to Trump Jr.’s meeting such as text messages, notes and voicemails, according to CNN.
