Poll: Most voters say Trump respects men more than women

A majority of U.S. voters says President Trump respects men more than women, according to a Quinnipiac University poll out Tuesday.

Fifty-nine percent of respondents said they think the president does not respect women as much as he does men, compared to 34 percent who said otherwise. 

GOP voters, however, do not see a discrepancy between Trump’s respect for men and women. According to the poll, 66 percent of respondents who identify as Republicans said the president respects women just as much as he respects men. Only 27 percent said that’s not the case.

White men are divided on the issue, with 47 percent saying he does not respect women as much as men, and 47 percent saying he does.

Trump’s approval rating, while still low, ticked upward, pollsters also found. Thirty-eight percent of American voters now approve of the job he is doing in the White House, while 55 percent disapprove.

That’s a 3-point increase from a Nov. 14 Quinnipiac poll that pegged the president’s approval rating at 35 percent. Trump has not hit 40 percent in Quinnipiac’s polls since June 29.

The views on Trump’s respect for women come amid a national conversation about sexual harassment and assault. A number of prominent men in politics, business, media and beyond have faced allegations of sexual misconduct in recent weeks, including Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) and Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore.

Trump has faced allegations of sexual impropriety himself. During the 2016 presidential race, multiple women claimed the real estate mogul made inappropriate and unwanted sexual advances. Trump has denied those allegations.
