Trump: FBI’s reputation in tatters

Greg Nash

President Trump early Sunday criticized the FBI, saying “its reputation is in Tatters” and vowing to fix the bureau.

“After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters – worst in History!” Trump said, referencing former FBI Director James Comey, whom he fired in May.

“But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness.”

Moments earlier, he appeared to reference reports that special counsel Robert Mueller reassigned an agent working on the Russia probe after the bureau’s inspector general began investigating the official for possibly sending anti-Trump text messages. The agent previously worked on the investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

“Tainted (no, very dishonest?) FBI ‘agent’s role in Clinton probe under review.’ Led Clinton Email probe. @foxandfriends Clinton money going to wife of another FBI agent in charge,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“Report: ‘ANTI-TRUMP FBI AGENT LED CLINTON EMAIL PROBE’ Now it all starts to make sense!” he added

{mosads}The president also retweeted a user who discussed the new reports about the FBI agent.

Trump’s firing of Comey in May ultimately led to Mueller’s appointment as the special counsel tasked with investigating Russia’s election meddling and any potential ties between the president’s campaign staff and the Kremlin.

Trump’s tweets also come after Michael Flynn, his former national security adviser, pleaded guilty last week to lying to the FBI. Flynn, who served in his White House position for under a month, will cooperate with Mueller’s probe.
