Trump touts stock market gains
President Trump on Tuesday touted the rise of the stock market, invoking his “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan.
“DOW RISES 5000 POINTS ON THE YEAR FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER – MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

CNBC reported that the Dow Jones industrial average closed Monday with its 70th record high of the year.
The stock market rise comes as Republicans are pushing to pass tax-reform legislation before the Christmas holiday. The plan includes a sweeping cut to the corporate tax rate.
Trump periodically touts the stock market highs on his Twitter account. He has in the past taken credit for the increases, citing confidence in the tax-reform efforts.
“Stock market hit yet another all-time record high yesterday,” Trump said in early November.
“There is great confidence in the moves that my Administration … is making. Working very hard on TAX CUTS for the middle class, companies and jobs!”
