Trump unhappy with Shah’s job at press briefing: report
President Trump was unhappy with deputy press secretary Raj Shah on Thursday after Shah said the White House could have done a better job handling the situation surrounding abuse allegations against former staff secretary Rob Porter, according to CNN.
The Hill has reached out to Shah for comment.
{mosads}Shah said during a press briefing on Thursday that the White House mishandled the reports on the abuse allegations against Portman, stemming from his two ex-wives.
“We all could have done better over the last few hours, the last few days, in dealing with this … but the emerging reports were not reflective of the individual we have come to know,” Shah said
The White House is facing backlash after Porter’s ex-wives, Colbie Holderness and Jennifer Willoughby, told the Daily Mail that they were put through physical and emotional abuse during their marriages to Porter. The Intercept published pictures Wednesday that showed one of Porter’s ex-wives with a black eye after he allegedly attacked her.
CBS News also reported that the FBI was aware Willoughby obtained a temporary protective order against Porter in 2010.
Shah said the original support for Porter from the White House was based on incomplete information.
The White House announced Porter’s resignation on Wednesday.
White House chief of staff John Kelly, who originally defended Porter, changed course Wednesday evening and said that he was shocked by the claims.
“I was shocked by the new allegations released today against Rob Porter. There is no place for domestic violence in our society,” Kelly said in a statement.
