Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone talked of meeting with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in an email obtained by One America News Network’s Trey Yingst.

“I dined with my new pal Julian Assange last nite,” Stone wrote in the August 2016 email to former Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg.

Stone has said his comment was a joke and that he never talked to Assange.

He told The Daily Caller the email to Nunberg “was simply a continuation of the same joke I had sarcastically made to Nunberg as I ended a prior phone call with him, after it had dragged on for far too long.”

{mosads}”At all times before, during and after both that phone call and the subsequent tongue-in-cheek email that made my ‘dinner with Assange’ into a running joke, I was firmly ensconced right here in the United States of America, nowhere near London, Assange or anything even resembling foreign soil,” Stone said.

“Sam, being a neurotic, would sometimes call me dozens of times throughout the day. Late one Friday night, while I was trying to get him off the phone, he asked me if I had weekend plans,” he said. “I responded, ‘I think I’ll fly to London and have dinner with Julian Assange,’ adding ‘when I realized that Nunberg actually believed that I had flown to London, I simply milked the joke a little more in a subsequent email.’ “

One America News published the email exchange one day after The Wall Street Journal reported that special counsel Robert Mueller was investigating Stone’s claim that he met with Assange.

Nunberg had sent Stone a poll showing Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton up by 15 points over then-candidate Donald Trump.

Stone told Nunberg to “enjoy it while u can” before making the comment about Assange.

The Daily Caller reported that Stone showed them boarding passes and credit card records from Aug. 1 to Aug. 4 showing he took a two-day trip to California and arrived in Miami the morning of Aug. 4 after an overnight flight.
