President Trump said on Thursday that he may need to meet more than once with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in order to reach a denuclearization deal.

Trump made the remarks to Reuters on Air Force One.

{mosads}The president went on to say he is likely to receive a visit from Kim Yong Chol, North Korea’s former military intelligence chief and currently a top aide to Kim, on Friday.

The North Korean envoy is reportedly carrying a letter from Kim Jong Un to give to Trump.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo traveled to New York City on Wednesday to meet with Kim Yong Chol in an effort to salvage a summit between the two countries on denuclearization.

The president called off a June 12 summit with Kim Jong Un last week, citing the North Korean leader’s “tremendous anger and open hostility” toward the U.S.

The White House has since suggested that the meeting could still happen if talks improve between the two countries.

“If it happens, we’ll certainly be ready,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Wednesday. “We’re going to continue to shoot for June 12.”
