Avenatti: Where’s the check from Mexico to pay for the wall?

Stormy Daniels’s attorney, Michael Avenatti, mocked President Trump on Wednesday, asking if anyone has seen a payment from Mexico to fund the president’s “ridiculous” border wall.

“Has anyone seen that check from Mexico that was going to pay for the ridiculous wall?” Avenatti asked on Twitter. “More importantly, where are all the manufacturing and steel jobs Trump promised voters in PA, OH, MI, and WI? Be clear — a snake oil salesman now sits in our White House.”

Avenatti’s criticism comes as Trump threatens to shut down the government in the fall if he doesn’t get adequate funding from Congress for a wall along the southern border.

{mosads}Since his presidential campaign, however, Trump has repeatedly stated that Mexico would pay for it.

“In the end, Mexico is going to pay for the wall,” Trump said at a rally in Nashville, Tenn., in May. “They’re going to pay for the wall, and they’re going to enjoy it.”

Former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto pushed back hard against that prediction, saying that his country would “never” pay for the wall.

Mexico’s new president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, echoed that sentiment this week, saying that “nobody will threaten us” with a wall.

Avenatti, who is representing Daniels, an adult-film star, in her lawsuits against the president, has frequently criticized Trump this year. On Tuesday, he mocked Trump’s “birther” conspiracy theory by saying he doctored his birth certificate to work at McDonald’s as a teenager.

Daniels is suing Trump over a nondisclosure agreement related an alleged affair with the president a decade ago. She claims that the deal is void because the president did not sign the document. Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, is also suing him for defamation over his denial about their relationship.
