Kim Kardashian West visits White House to talk prison reform

Kim Kardashian West visited the White House on Wednesday to discuss prison reform with administration officials.

The White House confirmed that Kardashian West was among the dozen outside guests to take part in the discussion, which focused on the clemency process. Other guests included CNN host Van Jones, Federalist Society President Leonard Leo, and retired Judge Kevin Sharp.

Four administration officials attended the discussion, including White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, who has led efforts to overhaul the prison and sentencing systems. 

{mosads}”Today at the White House, members of the Administration are hosting a listening session about the clemency process. The discussion is mainly focused on ways to improve that process to ensure deserving cases receive a fair review,” deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement.

Kardashian West reportedly speaks regularly with Kushner on the issue of criminal justice reform.

Kushner has been an advocate of prison and sentencing reform, championing a compromise bill crafted in the Senate. However, President Trump said last month he has problems with the overhaul, and indicated he wants to revisit the issue after November’s midterm elections.

Page Six reported earlier Wednesday that Kardashian West has taken an interest in the case of a man named Chris Young, who was sentenced to life in prison for marijuana and cocaine possession after a 2010 arrest.

The reality TV star is reportedly consulting with Sharp on the case. The judge resigned from his post in Tennessee in 2017 out of frustration with minimum sentencing requirements.

Kardashian West previously met with Trump to urge him to commute the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, who was serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense and money laundering charges.

Trump granted Johnson clemency in June after meeting with Kardashian West.
