Speier: Clinton’s ‘victims’ were not ‘treated as they should have been’

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) said on Sunday that the women who made sexual misconduct allegations against former President Clinton “were not treated as they should have been.”

{mosads}“They should have been believed, because, as I pointed out, most people who come forward are telling the truth,” Speier told CBS’s “Face the Nation.” 

Speier noted that Clinton faced impeachment over his alleged actions, which are again being scrutinized amid the renewed focus on sexual misconduct. 

“Well let’s remember he did face impeachment,” Speier said of Clinton on Sunday. “It wasn’t as if it was just tossed to the side, he faced impeachment.”

The California congresswoman last week introduced legislation that would mandate sexual harassment awareness training on Capitol Hill.

Speier has also disclosed that a chief of staff forcibly kissed her in the 1970s when she worked on Capitol Hill.

Women have recently come forward accusing men in politics, including Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) and Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, of sexual misconduct.
