Conyers hospitalized in Detroit

Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.), who is embroiled in a sexual misconduct scandal, was hospitalized in his home state due to stress, according to two local reports on Thursday.

“I just spoke with Monica Conyers on the phone and we want you to know that the congressman is resting comfortably in an area hospital. He’s doing OK, as well as he can be expected for a gentleman that’s approaching 90 years of age,” Sam Riddle, a Conyers consultant, told WDIV TV.

“The congressman’s health is not what it should be and lot of that is directly attributable to this media assault.”

{mosads}Conyers stepped down earlier this week from his post as the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee after acknowledging that he settled a wrongful dismissal complaint in 2015 stemming from accusations of sexual harassment, which he has denied.

In comments to CBS Detroit, Riddle dismissed the allegations against Conyers and said the congressman and his family have “dealt with these serial accusers before.”

“These serial accusers are being given way too much credibility because (hashtag) #metoo is trending. The congressman’s contributions to the nation go far beyond any hashtags that are trending right now,” Riddle told the news outlet, referring to a social media campaign to raise awareness of the pervasiveness of sexual harassment and assault.

“We’ve dealt with these serial accusers before. Their names are not new to the congressman or his family.”

Following the revelation that Conyers settled the 2015 complaint, a second accuser came forward claiming Conyers made unwanted sexual passes toward her on three separate occasions.
