According to The Associated Press, the case against Weinstein includes allegations from a woman who accused Weinstein of forcing her to perform oral sex during a meeting in his office in 2004.

Weinstein’s surrender to police was a significant development in the case against the film producer who was among the first powerful men to have accusations of sexual misconduct in the workplace brought against him in the “Me Too” movement last year.

Numerous women, including several celebrities, have come forward with allegations that Weinstein repeatedly engaged in unwanted, inappropriate and aggressive sexual behavior. Among the accusations are allegations of rape.

Media reports detailing the allegations against Weinstein touched off a series of public allegations against and revelations about sexual misconduct by a number of powerful men in politics, business, media and other industries.

Subsequent reports about Weinstein detailed how he leveraged his wealth and influence for years to cover up the alleged misconduct and quash news stories that sought to expose the allegations, which were regarded as a kind of open secret in the entertainment industry.
