‘Morning Joe’ pokes fun at Dershowitz for being ‘shunned’ at Martha’s Vineyard
The hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” poked fun at attorney Alan Dershowitz over his claims that he’s been shunned for speaking out against special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
Co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski joined BBC World News America reporter Katty Kay on Thursday to discuss the retired law professor.
“Professor Dershowitz says he’s not whining, he’s revealing that he’s getting this cold shoulder,” Kay said, and was promptly met with Scarborough’s laughs.

The group was responding to Dershowitz’s recent opinion piece for The Hill that claimed members of the liberal elite on the island off the coast of Massachusetts are turning their backs on him.
“And now he’s not being invited — poor thing — to Martha’s Vineyard cocktail parties,” Kay said sarcastically.
“I’m just not sure how this goes down in steel country,” she added. “Are they sitting there in Lorain, Ohio, saying ‘Oh my god, we’re so sorry that Mr. Dershowitz has come into trouble because he’s opposed the Mueller investigation.’”
Dershowitz wrote while he is not a supporter of President Trump, he believes Mueller’s investigation into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia should end.
Dershowitz’s defense of Trump’s civil liberties has caused some his old friends to “shun” him and ban him from social life, he wrote.
The lawyer compared the feeling to McCarthyism, a term synonymous with endorsing unfair allegations or investigations.
“He has been Donald Trump’s mouthpiece,” Scarborough argued. “He has been Donald Trump’s bullhorn in attacking Robert Mueller.”
Scarborough, a frequent critic of Trump, penned an op-ed in The Washington Post in April criticizing Trump’s allies for attacking Mueller’s probe.
He called them a “desperate” and “miserable crew.”
