Dem redistricting group finishing July with $10.8M
The National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) will end July with $10.8 million, Politico reported.
Most of the money for the group, which is chaired by former President Obama Attorney General Eric Holder, came primarily from high-dollar donors, according to the news outlet, which cited the NDRC’s financial filings.
About 10,000 people gave overall.
{mosads}Those who donated included Chicago’s Fred Eychaner and Florida’s Donald Sussman, who gave $500,000 each. Jon Stryker also gave $200,000.
“The NDRC’s significant fundraising in its first six months will allow us to take on gerrymandering and reform our electoral system,” Holder told Politico. “This will be done through our courts, at the ballot box, and through support of ballot initiatives that create non-partisan commissions and other electoral reforms.”
Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez told The Washington Post at the time that Obama wanted to help “build the bench” for the Democrats.
Obama wants to support the committee’s “efforts to address unfair gerrymandering practices that leave too many American voters feeling voiceless in the electoral process,” spokesman Kevin Lewis said.
