New York gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon (D) has cut into Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s (D) lead among Democrats, but still trails the governor by a wide margin, according to a poll released Tuesday.

The Siena College poll, conducted from April 8 to 12, shows Cuomo holds a 31 percentage point lead over Nixon, who is challenging him in the Democratic primary. Among registered Democrats, 58 percent said they would vote for Cuomo, while 27 percent said they would vote for Nixon.

Last month’s Siena poll showed Cuomo with a 47-point lead over Nixon.

{mosads}Cuomo, who is seeking his third term as governor, has a 62 percent favorability rating among state Democrats, compared to 32 percent who view him unfavorably, the poll found.

By comparison, Nixon has a 33 percent favorability rating and a 23 percent unfavorable rating, according to the Siena poll.

The poll has a margin of error of 4.3 percentage points.

Nixon, an actress and activist who starred on the television series “Sex and the City,” earned the state’s Working Families Party endorsement over the weekend.

If the party formally nominates her as its candidate, she would appear on the November ballot even if she lost to Cuomo in the September Democratic primary.

Cuomo is considered a potential candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.
