Conway: Omarosa has ‘undercut her own credibility’ with book claims

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway pushed back on Sunday against claims from former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman that President Trump is a racist, attacking Manigault Newman’s credibility.

“The first time I ever heard Omarosa suggest those awful things about this president are in this book,” Conway said, referencing Newman’s upcoming memoir that depicts Trump as a narcissist and a racist.

“And I think that Omarosa, unfortunately, has undercut her own credibility,” she added.

She noted that Manigault Newman gave an interview to NPR in which she appeared to contradict her own book by saying she’d heard tapes of Trump uttering racist slurs. In the memoir, Newman writes she knows such tapes exist, but adds she has not heard them.

“This is somebody who gave a glowing appraisal of Donald Trump the businessman, the star of ‘The Apprentice,’ the candidate and indeed the president of the United States,” Conway said.

“I have worked alongside that man for over two straight years now without interruption. I have never a single time heard him use a racial slur about anyone,” Conway added.

“I also never heard Omarosa complain that he had done that,” she continued. “The only thing that’s changed is that she’s now selling books.”

Manigault Newman, who rose to fame on Trump’s show “The Apprentice” and later took a job in his administration, was fired by chief of staff John Kelly late last year. The former White House aide claims she was fired because she was close to getting audio of Trump using a racial slur.

Manigault Newman this week began a book tour for her explosive new book, “Unhinged: An Insider Account of the Trump White House” which recounts her time in the White House titled.

The book has rocked Washington with a number of incendiary claims. Manigault Newman has claimed that Trump used the “N-word” and that he ate a piece of paper when she entered a room with his former attorney, Michael Cohen.

Trump blasted his longtime aide as a “lowlife” after book excerpts began to leak, and the White House slammed her as a “disgruntled former White House employee” who is “trying to profit off of these false attacks.”
