Anthem hack may reach WH cyber czar

The White House cyber czar may have had personal information leaked in the recent Anthem data breach.

Anthem Inc., the country’s second-largest health insurer, was hit with a massive cyberattack that exposed up to 80 million customers’ personal information.

{mosads}White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Michael Daniel may be one of those customers, the administration confirmed late Thursday. Anthem offers plans from Blue Cross Blue Shield, Daniel’s health insurance provider.

Daniel referenced his possibly pilfered data on Thursday at a Bloomberg event.

The cyber czar was asked what advice he would give individuals whose information might be at risk.

“Watch your credit score and your identity tracking,” he said. “Obviously, probably change the password that we use associated with that, which would include me.”

Hackers made off with names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, street addresses, email addresses and income data. No credit card information or health records were taken.

Reportedly, early indications are that Chinese state-sponsored hackers may be behind the incident.
