US conducts first strikes on ISIS oil trucks
American warplanes have for the first time carried out airstrikes on oil trucks used by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), according to The New York Times.
{mosads}An initial assessment showed that 116 trucks used by the Islamic militants to smuggle oil had been destroyed in the attack in eastern Syria, according to the report.
Officials familiar with the operation told the newspaper it was developed before last Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris. ISIS claimed credit for those attacks, which left 129 people dead and scores more injured.
An American official told The Times that there were no immediate reports of civilian casualties in the strikes against the trucks.
ISIS has generated millions of dollars to fund its military operations by producing and exporting oil; a practice officials have long sought to take out.
