Obama to speak at green group’s event

President Obama will be the featured speaker next week at a dinner hosted League of Conservation Voters (LCV), a year after he unveiled a major second-term effort to fight climate change.

LCV said its annual Capital Dinner event on June 25 in Washington will mark the one-year anniversary of Obama’s Climate Action Plan. Obama also spoke at LCV’s 2006 dinner.

{mosads}“We’re deeply honored that President Obama will speak at our Capital Dinner on the one-year anniversary of his powerful speech unveiling his Climate Action Plan,” LCV President Gene Karpinski said in a Wednesday statement.

The event will also feature Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Obama’s speech last year at Georgetown University set out a series of major environmental actions focused on mitigating climate change, preparing for its effects and building international agreements. The largest piece of that, a proposal to reduce carbon emissions from power plants by 30 percent by 2030, was unveiled earlier this month by the Environmental Protection Agency.
