Warren: I’m willing to work with Trump

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said Wednesday that she would like to put aside differences and try and work with President-elect Donald Trump.

In a statement provided to the Boston Globe, the liberal stalwart and rising Senate Democrat noted that she opposed Trump in the election but is ready to accept the outcome.

{mosads}“It’s no secret that I didn’t want to see Donald Trump win yesterday,” she said. “But the integrity of our democracy is more important than any individual election, and those of us who supported Hillary Clinton will respect this result.”

“President-elect Trump promised to rebuild our economy for working people, and I offer to put aside our differences and work with him on that task,” she added.

Trump and Warren are far apart politically, and Warren established a reputation during the campaign as a particularly able attack dog for Clinton in challenging Trump as a candidate.

But, occasionally, their populist rhetoric can strike similar tones. Both of them have assailed an inherent unfairness in the country, arguing that powerful figures enjoy outsized influence. Trump primarily trained his fire on Washington, while Warren specialized in excoriating Wall Street. But stark differences remain between the two, and Warren said she hoped Trump would ably fill the office.

“It is my sincere hope that he will full that role with respect and concern for every single person in this country, no matter who they are, where they come from, what they believe, or whom they love,” she said.
