Trump promises to appoint anti-abortion Supreme Court justices

Donald Trump on Tuesday said he will appoint Supreme Court justices who oppose abortion but stopped short of saying they would overturn Roe v. Wade. 

{mosads}Pressed by Fox News host Bill O’Reilly on whether his chosen justices would overturn Roe v. Wade, Trump said, “They will be pro-life, and we will see what about overturning.”

“But we will appoint — I will appoint — judges that will be pro-life, yes,” the presumptive GOP presidential nominee added. 

Trump has drawn objections from anti-abortion leaders in the past. In January, a group of them urged voters to support “anyone but Trump.” 

Trump supported abortion rights in the past, and the groups said he has been inconsistent and unpredictable on the issue. 

Trump acknowledges his previous support for abortion rights but says he is now opposed. 

“I have become pro-life,” Trump told Fox News on Tuesday night. “And the reason is, I have seen, in my case one specific situation, but numerous situations that have made me to go that way.”

Asked about the “sanctity of human life,” Trump said, “I will protect it and the biggest way you can protect it is through the Supreme Court and putting people in the court.”
