Trump to keynote anti-abortion gala next week

President Trump will speak at a campaign event next week held by a national anti-abortion group. 

The Susan B. Anthony List announced Monday that Trump will keynote its 11th annual “Campaign for Life” gala on May 22. 

{mosads}“President Donald Trump is governing as the most pro-life president in our nation’s history and Susan B. Anthony List is honored to receive him at our annual Campaign for Life Gala,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. 

Anti-abortion groups have cheered the Trump administration for taking many actions targeting abortion, including his reinstatement of the so-called Mexico City policy, which prohibits federal funds from going to international organizations that discuss, provide or offer referrals for abortion services.

“President Trump has diligently and successfully gone about fulfilling his promises to the pro-life voters who worked so hard to elect him, and it has been a privilege to stand with him to defend the innocent unborn,” Dannenfelser said.

Last year, Vice President Pence spoke at the gala, which raises money for Susan B. Anthony List’s campaign plan to elect anti-abortion lawmakers.

Dannenfelser called the 2018 midterms the “most important election for the pro-life movement since Roe. v. Wade.” 

Susan B. Anthony List and other anti-abortion groups have become frustrated with Congress, particularly the Senate, for failing to accomplish key priorities like defunding Planned Parenthood. 

“We must reclaim the pro-life Senate majority to protect the gains made under President Trump and his administration and ensure that his pro-life agenda can continue unobstructed,” Dannenfelser said. 

Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, will also receive the group’s 2018 Distinguished Leader Award, and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) will speak. 

“Kellyanne’s presence on the Trump campaign was an indication that Donald Trump took the pro-life issue very seriously,” Dannenfelser said. “Now serving as counselor to the president, Kellyanne plays a key role in helping President Trump to fulfill the four major promises he made to the pro-life movement during the campaign.”
