DHS suspends ‘any and all actions’ on Trump travel ban

The Department of Homeland Security says it has suspended “any and all actions” regarding President Trump’s ban on citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries entering the United States, though it plans to file an emergency stay on the ruling halting it.

“At the earliest possible time, the Department of Justice intends to file an emergency stay of this order and defend the President’s Executive Order, which is lawful and appropriate,” spokesperson Gillian Christensen said in a statement, as first reported by BuzzFeed News.

Homeland Security said in its statement that it was suspending “any and all actions implementing the affected sections” of the order.

{mosads}“This includes actions to suspend passenger system rules that flag travelers for operational action subject to the Executive Order. DHS personnel will resume inspection of travelers in accordance with standard policy and procedure.”

A federal judge in Seattle on Friday ordered that the travel ban be stopped nationwide.

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed the suit against the travel ban three days after the order was signed.

Trump last week signed an executive order imposing a 90-day travel ban on nationals from seven predominantly Muslim countries. The order also included a 120-day halt on admitting refugees and an indefinite stop to admitting refugees from Syria.
