London mayor: Cancel Trump’s visit over anti-Muslim tweets

London Mayor Sadiq Khan slammed President Trump on Thursday, saying he should not be welcomed in the United Kingdom after retweeting a series of videos from a leader of an ultranationalist British party that claims to show Muslims engaging in violent acts.

Khan, who is Muslim, said an official visit by Trump to the U.K. “would not be welcomed” and said the president is touting “a vile, extremist group,” according to The Associated Press.

{mosads}Trump early Wednesday retweeted the violent, anti-Muslim videos from the Britain First’s Jayda Fransen. 

The retweets sparked outrage throughout the U.K., causing various members of the country’s political class to condemn Trump. 

Prime Minister Theresa May in a statement said the president’s actions were “wrong,” while Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn called them “abhorrent, dangerous and a threat to our society.”

The president responded to May on Wednesday, saying she should focus on terrorism.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended the president for sharing the videos, saying that regardless of whether the inflammatory videos are real, “the threat is real.”

“The threat is real and that is what the president is talking about,” she said Wednesday.
