Palestinian officials give conflicting accounts on new Abbas hospitalization
Palestinian officials on Sunday gave conflicting accounts of President Mahmoud Abbas’s medical condition after he was hospitalized.
{mosads}Reuters reports that one Palestinian official said Abbas was admitted to the hospital after experiencing complications from an ear surgery he underwent last Tuesday.
The official said “doctors advised that he go back into hospital” after his temperature increased.
However, a source at the al-Istishari hospital in Ramallah told the news service that Abbas’s latest stay in the hospital is not connected to his ear surgery.
“The president will stay in hospital until tomorrow. He is being given antibiotics to treat an inflammation in the chest,” the source said.
The Palestine Liberation Organization said on Twitter that senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat visited Abbas, and said he was in good health.
The accounts come as Israel and the Palestinians deal with the fallout over violence last week along the Gaza border that resulted in the deaths of more than 60 Palestinians.
Thousands of others were injured.
