Bolton: Summit between Trump, Kim Jong Un ‘is going to happen’

National security adviser John Bolton said in a Sunday show interview that he believes a summit between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will happen.

“I think it is going to happen” Bolton told “Fox News Sunday” of the possible gathering.

Bolton said the “precise parameters” of the meeting are still being worked out.

A potential summit between Trump and Kim would follow Kim’s meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Friday, when Kim crossed into South Korea for the first time.

Bolton said the administration is still working to “agree on a place,” which he said “remains an issue.”

“I think it’s something that the president has thought a good deal about already,” Bolton said of a meeting between Trump and Kim. 

The president has pushed back against critics speculating Kim could be preparing a trap for the United States. 

“We’re not going to be played, OK? We’re going to hopefully make a deal, if not that’s fine,” Trump said Friday.

During a separate interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Bolton insisted the Trump administration is not “naive.”

“President Trump is determined to see this opportunity through, hopeful that we can get a real breakthrough,” Bolton said. “But we’re not naïve in the administration and a lot’s going to ride on this meeting with Kim Jong Un.”
