Comedian subpoenaed in House Intel probe

Randy Credico, a New York comedian and political activist, has been subpoenaed to appear before the House Intelligence Committee. 

Credico, who also hosted a radio show in New York, is set to appear before the committee on Dec. 15, according to a copy of the subpoena posted on his Twitter account. The document is signed by the panel’s chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).

The House Intelligence Committee is among three congressional panels investigating Russia’s role in the 2016 presidential election, as well as possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

{mosads}Credico has interviewed Julian Assange, the founder of the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks, multiple times in recent years.

WikiLeaks published stolen Democratic emails during the 2016 presidential election. The U.S. intelligence community has said that those emails were hacked and released as part of a Russian campaign to influence the election and sway it in President Trump’s favor.

According to Reuters, the comedian has been identified to the committee by GOP operative Roger Stone as a middle man between him and Assange.

Stone, an ally and informal adviser to Trump, has denied allegations that he or anyone else close to the campaign coordinated with Russia during the 2016 race. 

A spokesman for the House Intelligence Committee declined to comment on Credico’s scheduled appearance. 

Credico previously rejected the committee’s request for an interview, apparently prompting the panel to compel him to testify.
