A train on southern California’s Metrolink commuter rail system crashed after colliding with a truck on Tuesday morning, according to the agency that operates the trains.

“VC Line 102 to Los Angeles is stopped between Oxnard & Camarillo due to striking a vehicle on the tracks. Updates to follow,” the agency tweeted

The train was traveling on Metrolink’s Ventura line when it collided with a truck that was in its path at a crossing in Oxnard, Calif, which is west of Los Angeles. Approximately 30 passengers were injured in the crash, according to reports.

{mosads}The National Transportation Safety Board said is monitoring the situation at the Metrolink crash site.

“We are aware of the rail accident near Oxnard, CA and are currently gathering information about the event,” the accident investigation agency tweeted

The Metrolink crash is the latest in a series of public transportation accidents that have prompted the Obama administration to propose new transit safety regulations.

A passenger on Washington, D.C. Metrorail subway system died last month when a train on the agency’s Yellow Line became filled with smoke after an electrical problem. Additionally, seven passengers were killed when a train on New York’s Metro-North commuter railway collided with an SVU earlier this month.
