Poll: Virginia’s US Senate race remains deadlocked

{mosads}Kaine, the former head of the Democratic National Committee, pulls 84 percent of Democrats surveyed, while Allen is the choice of 87 percent of Republicans. But Kaine posts an advantage among independent voters in the state, leading 45-37 percent, buoying his overall numbers.

Kaine likely benefits both from more recently having served as governor and a better favorability rating. According to the survey, voters have a +5 net favorable opinion of Kaine, while they’re 3 percentage points more likely to view Allen negatively.

In data released Tuesday, PPP found that President Obama held an 8-point lead over Mitt Romney in Virginia, a crucial swing state in November’s presidential contest.
