Planned Parenthood targets Romney in new swing-state ad

{mosads}Combined, that airtime purchase from Planned Parenthood Votes and PPAF is worth $3.5 million and brings the group’s total investment in ads against Romney to about $5 million.

Planned Parenthood has become heavily involved in politics as Republicans target its public funding over the issue of abortion.

Federal law prohibits terminating pregnancies with public dollars, but GOP lawmakers are adamant that the low-income healthcare provider should receive no taxpayer money for non-abortion health services such as cancer screenings.

Romney has followed suit and promised that as president, he would “get rid of” the group’s public funds.

Planned Parenthood’s new ad features a woman who calls this position “out of touch.”

“When Mitt Romney says ‘Planned Parenthood, we’re going to get rid of that,’ he really doesn’t understand how many women depend on Planned Parenthood,” says the woman, identified as Cynthia Wilson.

Wilson says her life
was saved by an early cancer diagnosis at one of Planned Parenthood’s clinics.

“We’re talking about real lives here,” she says. “I think [Romney] just does not have any idea how many lives he’s devastating.”

The GOP presidential nominee’s campaign responded by saying that American women “can’t afford another four years” of President Obama.

“More false ads and dishonest attacks from Obama’s allies can’t hide his failed record,” said Romney spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg in a statement.

“[Obama’s] have made it more difficult for women to start businesses, keep more money in the bank, or see their children graduate with good jobs on the horizon. Despite what the Obama campaign says, women are concerned about what’s happened over the last four years — and they can’t afford another four years of the same.”
